Rites of Passage

From Birth through to Death we mark many rites of passage.

For some this will be graduation or completion of apprenticeship, this generally happens soon after our coming of age. But we set goals thoughout our life and some take a life time to complete. Celebrating these events is an important part of our life. Sharing with friends some accomplishment or commitment.

A Birth, then, can be a welcoming ceremony as we greet new souls into our family circle. It might equally mark a new beginning, a stepping out on a new project.

A Death might be the end of an incarnation, a passing into the summer lands. It might equally mark a time of change, a sweeping away of the old, a moving on.

Then there are times when we change physically, when the child becomes a man or woman. When the woman becomes the crone. When we retire and have more time to give.

Many of these we will mark with a party or gathering or friends and family. But sometimes we need someone outside of the family to help with the ceremony or mark the event.
